Dave's la(te)st buggy build...

I had that happen to me years ago when I had my first Legacy, ever since I have always peeled the wiper off the screen first if it's frosty when I head out.

Back to it today after having  had Sunday off for a rest

I ordered free wheeling hubs from JimnyBits on Sunday, they were despatched Monday, delivered Tuesday, fitted Wednesday...

 

They fit in nice in the alloy due to the wheel spacers...

 

You'll remember I wasn't going to run FWH, I'd fitted some Vitara flanges using FWH spacer rings so that the front always had drive... But thinking about it I think it's best to run them incase of any driveline damage (shafts, prop, diff, etc...), then the hub can be turned off and the buggy free wheel home for subsequent repairs...

And also if my front LSD is repairable that will be going in with some TrailGear HS shafts that are waiting in the garage... and if not, I may have to start saving for a Kaiser! :evil:

 

I then started looking at aligning the headlights properly... I done some research on the iPad in the shop whilst manning my till receently, and then my friendly MOT man came in the shop Monday evening for some beers, so I picked his brain while serving him...

You can just about see on the garage sliding door a level line 85cm off the floor, with the centre line marked, and then two marks further out to marry up with the centres of the headlamps... this apparently is where my focus should be... so in this photo I'm too low Having spent some time angling them down in the past as they looked to high to me?! :laugh:

 

Just to check... I parked the NGV in the drive and measured their focal point... Yup, near as dammit 85cm... okay, crack on!...

 

So I slotted the back hole on the headlight moutning bolt holes...

 

And with three nuts (two are flange nuts so they bite and stay where they're put! ) I was able to align the headlight aim...

   

Thus!

 

Next the driver's side repeater was extended and wired up

Then the indicator to the JCB headlight, and then the side light... :woohoo: getting there!...

 

And then I spent AGES working out the headlight wiring :ohmy:

Took me a while to work out the pattern of the three wires that run to the headlight bulb using a probe (light up screwdriver with an earth wire with a crocodile clip on the end)... And I mean ages! :ohmy: It took me a while to work out that the red wire with a white tracer line (X- reg Jimny) was at first a complete null (i.e. neither earth nor live), and it was not until highbeam is selected that it goes from being a null to an earth?! But, I've worked out how to use the two wires to connect to my two relays that will be earth switched... so that the lights will work off the stalk as Suzuki intended...

So I wired it all up using 7 core trailer wire again, so that the trigger wires will run up to the relays and then back down to switch the lights...

 

I then tidied eveything up...

So that's the driver's side done... the passenger side will then be a lot easier on Sunday as I now know what I'm doing

I then took the Labradors for a nice long walk as it's their seventh birthday today :woohoo:
