Thanks Jezz, will go shopping for some Ammo then?! :woohoo:
(I've not started cutting the arces and stuff for the larger tyres yet, not 'til my eye is sorted, hopefully Tuesday when I see the consultant again... and hopefully he'll take this damn contact lense out!)

On my last solo wander (a Tuesday Trundle rather than a Wendesday Wander) -
www.bits4vits.co.uk/store/tuesday-trundl...again-/blog_319.html
...my front vacuum operated hubs failed leaving me stranded on a greenlane I was investigating and exploring, and I had to ...
... winch myself back up a slope using four winch pulls off four handy trees...
So, when I eventually got home  I started investigating...
The 4WD light comes on, but the hubs don't "clunk" into place
I had a good look underneath and can't see any of the vacuum hoses damaged, although I had driven over a good few fallen branches and logs earlier on the wander...
But, with a group 'laning day looming on the following Sunday, and my family about to leave on holiday to Greece, I decided a repair would take to long to find and effect, so I reached into...
... the spares box in the back of the Jimny (the other box is full of tools), and pulled out...
A pair of Jimny specific free wheel hubs that I got from JimnyBits, and kept them in the back... just in case!
So, off comes the wheel...
And then the original vacuum operated hub...
And then the base of the new switchable hub goes on...
Then a small No.10 Torx bit is needed...
To attach the cap on...
All done, and ready for a day out with the lads on Sunday!

I do like the convenience of the vacuum hubs and will be trying to get them working in time, but I had to fit these to get out this Sunday as time was short... then they'll go back in the spares box... just in case!

Do you guy's turn your hubs on and off for every lane ? I usually just turn mine on at the first lane of the day then off when heading home.

Dan : Yes, but isn't it easier to select 2WD-Low on the Rockwatt Rocklobster Box? *
Gaz : That's the joy of having the vacuum hubs I'll have to turn mine on and off (for now?) between 'lanes otherwise the LSD will be in play on the tarmac... The other lads do leave them mostly on unless we're doing a good few miles on tarmac...
Mav : Yes, I'll be "getting out and touching the centre of each wheel for luck" for now...
* Hasn't everyone got this? Just push the transfer stick slightly forward from 4Wd-Low and you get 2Wd-Low, and the front hubs even (used to!) turn off...
Hence why I'm keen to get the vacuum hubs working again... soon?

Using your winch rope like that... It wont last very long.
Always use a winch strap of some sort. Both for the sake of the trees and because you're reducing the breaking load of the rope by roughly 50% using it like that, directly around a tree trunk.

Yup, very true Tom, well spotted...
And my quick-strop was behind the passenger seat
Should have stepped back and thought about it some more, paniced a bit being on my own?...

Not yet 'fella
Still waiting for my eye to heal before weilding an angle grinder again...
And the wife and daughters have been in theatre for the first two weeks in August, and jetted off Wednesday for two weeks in the sun...
So no time at the moment, will get back to work in September though
And we're out 'laning tomorrow too! So a new blog coming soon...
