Check Engine: Noob question was created by hairytoes
Hi good people,

Just got my new (2001) Jimny & I may be hooked already.

It's been really snowy here in Auchterarder, Perth, Scotland & I live up a dirt track hill. Jimny has done well, although I've ordered new Cooper Discoverer tyres on the 205/70/15R..swithered with the General Grabber on 75's but they're hard to get at the moment up here & Jimny is unmodified re: clearance (although I gather Suzuki are cool with 75 tyres..?).

Anyway, when I turn the ignition on the Check Engine light, lights up.

When I actually start the engine, the light immediately disappears & I don't feel as if there is a problem...should I be worried, or have it checked out?

The steering veers a fair bit to the left, I'm getting the tracking checked when I get my new tyre this week..but I've read there can be underlying problems in this department...again, should I be worried?

Thanks for any help, I'm hooked already!!

I was hoping that, Hope your right.

Do you have a Jimny though?

And does it do it on your Jimny, as well as your bike?

Ta.

All the lights come on with the ignition, then go out when you start it, except the AIRBAG lamp, which flashes for a few more seconds first, and the handbrake lamp.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

All this bloody snow!!

I got mine, cos Auchterarder is a nightmare for snow & I stay up a 1/2 mile hill Farmer's track.

The bottom road is also completely ignored by the council for gritting - hence my question about driving on icy tarmac.

As far as i can tell, the Jimny was the best option available to me for price & practicality. It's a 2nd car, wee runner to get us oot & aboot, we only work 3 miles away too, so it won't be doing a lot of miles.

Will be nearly £2.5k once I've put the new AT tyres on it & tarted it up a bit, roof bars etc.. for the shopping. 2001 Y plate, with a newish clutch, timing belt & 80k miles...Not bad considering they were going for more in the bad snowy spell (which is when I got it, last week.)

I really like it.
