Think I need to have a look at mine again. It recently pulled to the left violently under braking and the cause was found to be a seized piston on the right side (not braking). I sorted it out but at the time I noticed that the polished surface on the piston was in poor condition.

It's now starting to pull again so I presume that the piston is rusting due to the poor finish so is the only answer a new piston ?

It probably depends on how poor the surface is, mine cleaned up with a wipe of wet n'dry and solvol autosol. If you need a piston then try www.brakesint.co.uk or www.biggred.co.uk.

Facade - yes - thanks for reminding me about the sliders. I do remember finding they have different part numbers but mine have been apart so many times without me checking they are thoroughly mixed up, I will get my micrometer out and measured them. If I find a difference I will then have to try and work out what to do!

Bleeding should be straight forward. I have disks on the rear as well so I will probably have a quick look at those pistons as they have been on a year now. Bleeding the back is a bit more involved as the calipers are not quite upright so you have to rotate them slightly to get the bleed nipple to the top if I remember correctly.

Well I measured the sliders today and they are all but identical.

One is 0.5mm thicker that the other, but I would guess that that is within the tolerance of manufacture, particularly as both when cleaned up are a loose fit into the caliper.

Have you looked into how much good second hand calipers are from camsuzuki? Especially with the discount we now get and the service we've been promised.

If cheap enough it would be much less hassle and you could re-build the old ones slow time in the future so you always have a goos pair on the shelf in case it happens again - without the car being out of action.

Just a thought - I've got a set of calipers from the new front axle I bought as the scrappies left them on - I just hope they weren't the reason the car they came from crashed!

The sliders as people call them are the brake caliper pistons that seize in the caliper mounting causing the brake on that wheel work poorly which makes the other brake pull the car to that side.

Example - Seized caliper piston on right front wheel will make the car pull to the left !

Cheers mate, will take caliper off tomorrow and have a play. Mind doest pull when braking, it turns! Could drive round a small roundabout!

Seized caliper piston on right front wheel will make the car pull to the right as the brake wont relise and make it come on before the other/left brake because the brake pressure is higher than the relise pressure so the piston comes out but wont get pushed back in

Jack up the front and give the front wheels a spin, you may feel one side binding.
