4wd 4l overheating

hello

today i was using my suzuki jimny 2021 that has a cream color i think its called ivory and i was climbing a very muddy road which i have climbed before, the thing is i put my 4l and when it slips i hit on the gas a bit until it advances and this time it starting smoking from the front hood, i thought it was going to ignite in fire but thanks God it didnt go for worse, i descended the hill and have been using it normally so far no problem, have anyone had a similar situation?

Did the engine overheat? Sounds more like water or mud splashing onto the hot engine and exhaust.

White smoke means water that vapours (coolant or as Busta says, water from outside), black smoke is a blown cylinder head.

it was indeed the engine because the coolant reservoir started bubbling and there was vapor coming from the green cap and there was white smoke

by the way i just saw in the manual that 4l needs to be slow, i cant like go too quick, ill trry using 4h but just wanna know, is there something i can do to see if there was any damage? how can i check the 4l 4wd transmission and whatsover to see that there was no damage to the engine or so

What was the air temperature when the engine over-heated?

The fan should have kicked in long before the engine got this hot, did you notice if it did fire up? The fan should be able to control the temperature even when stationary, unless it was really hot outside and you were hitting high revs under a lot of load for some time.

The older 1.3L Jimny used to suffer from head gasket problems if the engine got this hot, I am not sure if the same happens with the 1.5L (2021) but it is not good for any engine to get this hot.

I doubt there will be any difference between 4L & 4H, your engine has to produce the same power and if the outside air temperature is the same, the engine will get just as hot.

the temperature was red, the thermostat turned red, i mean i dont have a thermostat at hand to know these things, the manual says to use 4h for normal speed and dont go high revs on 4l, i really dont know if i should check anything so far, the road was muddy and inclined, the answers are not helping much

What you have described is not normal.

What was the outside temperature, your car shows this on the dash board?

How long were you driving up this muddy hill?

Was the engine temperature normal before you started on the muddy hill?

To me your description of events sound like the cooling fan isn't coming on when it should. Have you checked it?

Nickcot, maybe this answer will help. 

Yes, you quite possibly damaged your engine and it needs to be checked by a professional.  They have tools and experience that you do not have, and we can't help you with.

No, there is nothing you can easily check "to see that there was no damage."  Boiling and/or exhaust-contaminated coolant is already a sign that there was potentially damage to one or more components.

Your choice is: go immediately to the professional shop to get it fixed, or don't.  If you choose the latter, you might save money in the short term, but will almost certainly spend more in the long term.

The gen4 has an electric fan so this is a possibility.  Could also be a stuck thermostat but they usually last > 10 years easily.

When you say the temperature was red, did you get a red warning light?  I don't think the gen4 ever has a proper gauge.

It is correct that the gen 4 doesn't have a gauge, disappointingly. Instead there is a warning light that looks like this:
