Wider tyres on stock rims new Jimny

As the others have said. 215/75R15 tires fit on the standard rims just fine. I've got BFG KM3s fitted to my 3 Jimnys.

Just reading through your jimny build thread, it sounds like you have 215s on stock rims and suspension.  And have driven some highway and off road without trouble.  Good to know I guess.  Still confused by the various  tables I've seen online with 195 being the supposed Max width for 5.5 rims.

Tyre height and to some extent construction can also vary the recommended rim widths not just the section width. A bigger sidewall will normally allow a more narrow rim.

As for tyres. It really depends what you plan to do with the vehicle.

I’m running Maxxis Wormdrives. Which look similar to the BFG AT but are a lot cheaper. IMO they are as good on and off road. My brother has the BFG’s on his Land Rover.

The BFG’s do look like they might last slightly longer. But probably not long enough to justify the price difference.

I do like the look of the KM3 from BFG, but that is an MT. Although again I’d actually probably opt for something like another Maxxis (764) or the Yokohama MT instead.

If you are mostly on road then go AT. Unless you want the visuals of an MT. I really can’t fault the Wormdrives. Wet or dry tarmac and they have exceeded expectations off road. They are slightly heavier than the stock road board tyres. This does impact mpg and acceleration a bit. If you are not really going to off road a more road biased AT May work better for you. The BFG KO2 and Maxxis Wormdrive are on the aggressive end of the AT spectrum.

The main BFG site is good at showing tyre and rim data. Although being the USA site it lacks the smaller sizes offered. But you can clearly see they say a 5.5 rim is fine for the size you are looking at.

Seem like a good compromise in looks and ability on road and off.

Just picked up our almost new Gen 4. Bought it with a set of oem wheels and a set of alloys with AT tires.
Alloys are 15x5.5 and tires are bridgestone dueler AT002 in 225/70-15.
My guess is they should be on 6'' wheels but they do not look 'funny' at all on the 5.5 rims. I believe there is no danger involved using them.
Out of curiosity I weight both wheels : 18.2 for oem, 19.5 alloys.. So they will not be bad performance wise I guess.
