I have just purchased a new jimny with mild rust, I was wondering to prevent further rust would it be okay to coat the frame and other parts with fluid film or would this be a bad idea? Thanks

It's all about the preparation. The more time you spend cleaning and removing and treating rust the better. There is no easy path.

What year is the Jimny you've bought? l treated our 2020 SZ5 with a clear wax type product and the underside still looks like new.

Not that there should be rust of any significance on a 2020 Jimny anyway.

But l've seen them with surface rust on metal parts of the suspension
