SJ manual hubs problem

After suffering from the usual vacuum hub problem my friend decided to purchase some preowned SJ manual hubs. They were fairly easy to fit but as we were removing the front part of one of them in order to get access to the outer bolts, the whole hub seemed to fall apart. After closer inspection it appears the spring inside has snapped. Does anyone have any idea where to get a replacement spring from? Or do we need to buy a whole new hub/pair of hubs?
