A tip that few people will tell you is BEFORE you get the grinder out to clean up the metal cover the glass/plastic/paintwork, use cardboard +tape.

Grinding sparks are hot and melt into plastic/glass/paint.
When they get damp they rust and make a real mess.

(If you are a wheeler dealers fan, notice Ed never bothers, but he can get a professional paint finish with an aerosol can)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I was told by Beevers Auto Panels in Barnsley (I think it was them?) to make a cardboard template of the floor and they could make me a repair piece with the ribbs pressed in for strength. No price was given.

Remember the fuel tank might need dropping to keep the heat away from it.

Also, have you checked further forward?
Check where the front carpet finishes behind the front seats. Pull the carpet away and check in the corners where the floor meets the inner sills and where it rises up to go to the rear, if you get my drift.

Mine was like new forwards of this point but started to get worse the further back I went.

Mine cost me £100 by an honest Auto Welder repairer garage doobrie.
