Spotlight relay wiring help

Fitted a pair of spots to the front today, now I'm sure I read somewhere that the high beam wiring is different to most other cars, negative switch or something,
If so what is the rearranged wiring to the relay?? so which number pins(86/87/ etc ) get which wire, ie power/ high beam circuit/ earth etc

Had a look at it, but have to admit, cannot make a great deal of sense from it, with my limited know how of electrics, all i need to know is, can I use the relay supplied with the lamps, and which wires do i need to connect and to where? swop wires to different numbers on the relay to cater for a switched earth?? or does it require more and different wiring??

with the jimny its easy ... a standard automotive relay SPST has 4 terminals ..
the terminals are usually numbered 30, 87, 85,86

30 and 87 are the low current "switch" circuits, and in a simple installation, would take a feed direct from the positive of the main beam (30) and then connect to earth (87) .. this will cause the relay to "click" when you put main beam on.

Now, in order to light the spot lights, you need to take a high current feed from the battery (ideally via a fuse) to the high current side of the relay (85). next, take a feed from (86) to your spotlights (+ve), and then earth the spotlights.

This will give you the spotlights comming on with main beam.
you can take it a step further by putting a switch in before the relay (30) to isolate the spotlights if you donot want to have them on when you put main beam on all the time.

Thanks for that, now I think I understand, I'll wire it up as you state tomorrow and sort it out, just out of curiosity, looking at the wiring diagram, I am assuming that the positive for the main beam is the red wire going to the holder on the headlamp bulb?

Thanks for the info, would it be possible to give me more of a laymans guide to wiring the relay,
ie 30 to where
87 to where
85 " "
86 " "
Am I correct in thinking, that 30 is a fused permanent live
87 goes to the high beam circuit(to pick up being switched on)
if thats so what do I connect to the other two?? one is obviously the feed to the spots? which one?
