Does such a thing exist?

While laning in Salisbury Plain, one thing I did notice that I'd like to improve is the rear door. On the level it is fine, but if you are even a modest side slope or slightly downhill the rear door will not stay open on its own. Which is quite annoying if you are trying to make a cup of tea.

Does anyone offer any kind of locking gas strut or other method of securing the door in the open position? I've had a look about, but not come across anything yet.

It'd probably be far too strong but have a look at the stay on a 155 land cruiser, it holds in any position and can lock fully open?

There are a few options.
1) Automatic rear door stay I made from 25mm plastic pipe, cut at one end to clip onto the ball mount the gas strut is fastened to.  I had seen ones you can buy but they are to put on and remove as required. This stay on even with the door closed.

The one in the video clip is the MK2, I left an extended length of pipe on the underside to make it easier to just flick up into the unlock position.

Strut Lock

2) A simple hook on/off bracket, (can't find it online now) but basically a length of flat bar bent 900 upwards at each end, with an angled slot in each end. It simply hooks over the strut rod and remove to close the door.

3) I have an extended strut to open the rear door to 900 to allow room for my fridge slide, I got it from SGS Engineering and bought the optional strut lock with it, however having just looked again, it looks like they have stopped doing the lock.

This post inspired me to add a locking sleeve to my door strut. It's very similar to the ones other have made, but it lifts up to lock and is held in place by the door trying to close. Open the door slightly and it drops down and the door returns to operating as normal.
