Gear stick play? was created by Mraz
Hi guys.
So, my gear stick is all over the place and shifting to 2nd gear is somewhat harder than others. I took a look and there's a noticable gap between the ball on the end of the gear stick and the part it connects to. Logic says there should be some sort of bushing between them, right?
Can anyone help me with this?

I have never had one apart but there's some sort of bush sleeve thing that fails or drops off or something. There's a few threads on it here and there.

I've read a few thhreads about it but there's no pics of the actual bushing. I was thinking of making a sleeve out of bronze that fits between the ball and the lever but I'm not sure should the ball hold the lever in place (so it doesnt move up and down) or would it be fine just to make a bush that removes the play without firmly holding anything.

Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way but my gearbox is not the one on the diagram. There should be a ring with three screws and mine doesn't have that.
As far as I understand I have a "R72" gearbox? '06 VVT manual

Your right, that link refers to the earlier R7ME gearbox,
You should have a white plastic bushing on the end of the stick shaft. it clips onto the ball end to square it off. Would be really sloppy without it.
Martin (the forum main man) can get suzuki genuine parts so should be able to source one for you Cant help with a part number tho

P.S. if you make a bush i would use a rigid plastic rather than bronze (which will transmit noise something rotten!)

The picture of your gearbox connection looks wrong. The collar is damaged and is inside the body when it should be below? why is it sitting so high?

I assume it was damaged when it was removed and I honestly have no idea why it protrudes inside the body. I got the car year ago and drive it like it is. No leaks, no grinding noise, all gears work fine and are easy to engage (second is a bit harder), 4H/4L works fine.
EDIT: Just took a look under the car and nothing seem out of place or bent.
