So .....having recently flogged the caravan and purchased a motorhome (3.5te) in its place, I would like to drag a nice little car behind it so that while I'm away, I can get past all those horrid pikey barriers that the council just loves to put up in the car parks...
Don't want a Smart fourtwo, Fiat Panda or anything else that can't accommodate my medium-sized mutt, but more importantly, because we already have Jimnys...three of them to be precise!!
I've searched a variety of Forums and can't find a definitive answer, but is there anything about the Jimny that would stop me from flat- towing one (with an A-frame)?
Two of the Jims are push-button 4wd, the other a floor select.
I've got it into my head that, because there's no neutral position in either of the t-boxes, I'll have problems towing a Jimny on all four wheels.
The max weight I can legally tow (braked) is 1250 kgs, which clearly rules out using a trailer, so it's a flat-tow or nothing.
Can anyone put me straight on this, please...has anyone any experience of flat-towing a Jimny???
Many thanks,
Gus

Brakes will be your problem, unless you can get some sort of electric brakes for the jimny being towed. Check the unbraked trailer weight, bet its way less than the jimny weighs
Flat towing shouldnt be a problem, i would guess you would need to have the key in the ignition for the steering lock, and it will be the same effect on the drivetrain as if you were coasting, feel free to correct me if im wrong on that everyone.
There is some sort of 2 wheel dolly thing that ive seen AA vans using which lifts the front wheels of the car being towed, and it has its own brakes. That might be the answer?
Finally - hire a car! The extra fuel and stuff needed will work out cheaper to hire one when you arrive somewhere.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationLike this. Might need to tow it backwards in 2wd if you want to keep the T-box out of it

The issue you will have is that if you are wanting to flat tow with your motor home then a Jimny on an A frame is too heavy to not need brakes operating on the overun and such brakes need to operate on all axles and at 50pc efficiency to meet the construction and use regs for trailers which is not easy to achieve using the existing system. In other words yes it is possible but it is expensive and difficult to achieve at a suitable level of safety and legality. Also to the best of my knowledge no electronic systems for applying brakes as seen widely in the USA are type approved for the UK. A proper transport trailer really is the best and simplest way forward.
