Except the bit about the sub 750kg mam because as a car it will have brakes and as a trailer because they are there they have to work appropriately. Sorry though a very light car will give you the weight to include a proper transport trailer.

As you will have discovered, as soon as you put a car onto an A frame behind another vehicle it immediately becomes a trailer and is subject to the laws governing them, most notably as i mentioned above the brakes have to operate on all axles at 50pc efficiency and it will also be required to be either type or individually approved as a trailer even though it is already type approved as a passenger vehicle. Getting the brakes to the correct standard for a trailer is not simply a matter of a cable to the foot pedal not least because of the servo but also the efficiency. Also be aware that as far as I am aware it is your responsibility for using such an A frame to be legal not the person selling it to you. Then there is the issue of insurance because as you well know they will drop you like you are hot in the event of a claim if they have even the slightest opportunity. If you are determined to go this way you need to find a car with a mam less than 750kg as that gets you out of the braking mine field at least. Be sure that you are safe and legal before dumping a tonne of cash into this.

This is the reason it's going to cost me the best part of a grand.
Electronic Proportional Braking is now available in the UK and conforms to or exceeds all known UK and European legislation (French included)
Operates on a dual-signal system, one being from a deceleration module in the overrun system, and the other being from the motorhome brake light circuits. Only when the systems computer sees a signal from both sources simultaneously, does it then apply proportional braking to all four wheels of the towed vehicle in response to the decel. signal.
Expensive? Yes.
Worth it? Most certainly. And, I can afford it !!!!

According to the Internet a c1 has a kerb weight of 805 kg , Brian James do a single axle transport trailer with a mam of 1300 and a payload of 865 , as the law on tow limits is now actual weight, combining the above gets you under your motor home limit. No reliance on electronic brakes no modifications to the car and the added utility of a trailer that can be used for othe jobs. I am not wanting to rain on your parade i just don't want to see you in front of the beak explaining how it all went wrong or worse in a ditch with a camper and c1 on your head.
