Four Wheel Drive was created by leavenheath
My sister in law bought a Jimny JLX at the weekend, it is in four wheel drive at the moment and she cannot work out what to do to make it go back to normal drive. She would appreciate any help. (she doesn't do computers either so I have to act as go between!)

Is it push button or gear leaver 4wd if its push button put foot on clutch with engine running and press and hold may the 2wd switch if a leaver type just push it towards the front of the car may need to move back or forwards but what ever you do dont drive it in 4wd as some thing will brake

Sorry to seem dense but i am not with her at moment. It is a normal gear lever car. Is there a separate switch for putting it in normal/four wheel drive? Or is it something to do with the gear stick?

And here's the push button type. It's a foreign website but you'll get the gist :)
The car changed around 2005 that is the reason it could be either type!

You sometimes have to press the clutch right to the floor to release it??

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

Have just spoken to her again . She has had other four wheel drives. She only bought the car at the weekend but it seems to be drinking petrol so reckons the salesman left it in 4wd. she says she can put the drive from high to low 4wd and it clicks and goes in and light flashes. But when she puts it in 2WD position nothing happens. She says with all her other four wheel drives a light would be on when in fwd , this just flashes when ignition turned.

Sorry pass as I have a leaver, good luck I'm sure it's just a case of understanding how it works.
The salesperson didn't do a very clear job of advising how the system works & should be contacted imo

If you have no lights on you are not in 4wd high or low, The flashing lights are just check lights and go off after starting.
Tell her to drive it slowly and put clutch to floor and press 4WD . It should engage and light should stay on?
DO NOT DO THIS ON DRY TARMAC AND DRIVE FAST OR ON BENDS JUST TRICKLE FORWARD SLOWLY.
The Jimny cannot be driven on wet or dry tarmac roads in 4WD or damage will occur!!!
Try it in a gravel car park or lane.

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)
