The car changed around 2005 that is the reason it could be either type!

You sometimes have to press the clutch right to the floor to release it??
I started off high and worked my way down ever since

Sorry pass as I have a leaver, good luck I'm sure it's just a case of understanding how it works.
The salesperson didn't do a very clear job of advising how the system works & should be contacted imo

Tell her to drive it slowly and put clutch to floor and press 4WD . It should engage and light should stay on?
DO NOT DO THIS ON DRY TARMAC AND DRIVE FAST OR ON BENDS JUST TRICKLE FORWARD SLOWLY.
The Jimny cannot be driven on wet or dry tarmac roads in 4WD or damage will occur!!!
Try it in a gravel car park or lane.
