hi , im after a little advice regarding buying a nearly new jimny

i currently own a 2001 model and im after a newer one but Suzuki stopped selling the jimnys in Ireland in 2009

is there any benefit or anything to beware of in any certain year or engine type

Hello,

I'm in the market for a Jimny ATM moment and here's what I've found out.

1998-2000 (timing belt)
2001-2004 (timing chain, more power, better fuel economy)
2005-present (VVT, even more power and better fuel economy)

I'd recommend 2005-up.

thanks ,

im going to look at a 2008 auto model shortly so that should be ok regarding the engine then , but it's an auto

i've had no problems with driving auto's previously in normal weather but how do they cope in the snow and ice or off road ??

I'm in the same boat as you. As for performance, don't worry about the auto. The power delivery is a lot smoother in automatics which makes them better in slippery stuff and steep terrain IMHO. The only real advantage the manual has is steep descents.

The 2005+ models also have push button 4wd vs. the levers you're accustomed to. People seem to like this feature and I haven't heard of any problems. Although, purists tend to prefer the levers.
