After the fun and games I had at the MoT I am considering making this gizmo more purposeful. When one or two of us sat in the back the rear brakes got to be nicely efficient. The rear seats do weigh something, possibly as much as a child, so with them out the rear end is running lighter. Now I know we don't want the back brakes coming on hard and fast when the rear end is light but having seen the numbers on the dyno I would say at the moment it is like having no real rear brakes. Roughly the front brakes pulled about 220 on the indicator while the rear ones did about 60 but that went up dramatically with one or two persons in the back. As it seems that the rear brakes are really not man enough for anything other than the Noddy wheels I am wondering if a little alteration in the tension on the spring is called for. It won't need much.

I thought that might be it. I am trying to work out if the spring needs to be a mm longer or shorter.

The brakes would work but every time you brake the rear will lock up and may spin you out and it would be an mot fail if there was signs of it being fitted

Hi Markyp2000

How did you stop the back end locking up after you fitted the rear disks?

trailmaster's solution is to lift the mounting point of the brake bias mechanism's spring to suit the 2" lift -

Photo blatently nicked from JimnyBits' store

I wouldn't mess, just stick some weight in the back for the MOT, messing might make the backs lock up too easily in the wet.

In The Olden Days I had a Hilman Imp. When I took it for MOT at a place with one of those new fangled roller testers, instead of a tapley meter, the fronts just locked out at hardly anything and kicked it out of the tester (the engine was in the boot ;) ) It took me and a spare mechanic sitting in the front boot affair to get it to pass.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
