Just a quick question I need to replace the oil seal. Is it really necessary to remove the brake shoes??
After undoing the brake pipes/cable,ABS sensor and the 4 nuts on the rear of the plate is there any reason why it cannot all come off as one piece as the half shaft is withdrawn??

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

thats a very good point actually....as long as you get the break pipe off and hand brake cable out the way then i dont see why you'd need to from when i played with mine last weekend thinking back now i dont think i needed to mess them about

if you can get the handbrake cable off without taking shoes out then you could leave shoes in

Ah the handbrake cable might be the reason why not??
I assume it will need some slack to get the nipple clear of the lever? and you've got to get the outer free of the back plate but I assume the shoes are in the way?
What about freeing the cable from the handbrake end? Just a thought

don't think its possible to get cable off shoes without taking them out you could take cable off from handbrake lever but prob just as easy to take shoes out

shame they did not make the backing plates like vits as you don't have to disconnect any brakes to remove shafts on them

With all the problems I've had on my 08 I'm beginning to think I've got a "Friday afternoon" car lol
I'm very surprised I have a leak from the half shaft when it has only done 37000 mls on the road.
Probably the reason I'm the 3rd owner in its short life? lol
It's nowhere near as reliable as my old 98 was??
