Just wondered how many of you off road with an automatic. :laugh: Is it true you can't fit lift kits to autos?? :unsure:

I've read that autos are actually more suitable off road as they are stronger and take the abuse

When you go to p&p days there will always be a guy there with a stripped down disco/defender with a V8 and an auto box

Total Off Road have just done an article on this very subject. Have a read!

The only thing is there are a few people on here needing replacement auto boxes at the moment, which might tell you something about the Jimny auto box strength.

A mate of mine has a very good 90 V8 on Megasquirt and an auto box with lower ratio diffs and when held in first it has good engine braking, that's with 3.9 litres of V8 though, which we ain't got!

My manual Jimjam seemed to get quicker down hill with engine braking before I went rocklobster, which I understand you can't do with auto or it'll not know when to change gear or summint. Bloody computer controlled! During the war...
