Just got a Jimny :-) was created by SophieFletch30
I'm 17, I haven't passed my Car Practical test yet but I've passed my theory and I've had plenty of hours of lessons.

My mum recently purchased a Jimny for me, it's a 2000 model with a 1.3 engine.

It's in pretty good nick as it's only had two previous owners and now I'm the third one!!! B)

I'm insured on my provisional license so I can drive it around providing that my mum/dad are in the car with me.

I've discovered it doesn't like being in first/second/third gear, it's more a forth/fifth gear car ;)

I'm looking to get the back windows tinted. Maybe after I've passed my test.

Welcome along Sophie

Not sure what you mean about your Jimny not liking 1st,2nd,3rd gears

I find mine pulls nicely in 3rd especially around town, but because its relatively low geared you tend to be in 5th by about 45mph

Good luck with the test!
The jimny is a great first car, im 18 and its my first car.
Much more fun than all my friends clio's and other normal 1st cars.
I also had my back windows tinted to 90% limo film - transforms the look of the car completely!
Lovely looking jim you got aswell!

Hi Sophie and welcome to the forum. You'll love your Jimny - I can't wrench the steering wheel out of my wifes hands.

As Adam said, the low gearing means it goes through 1, 2, & 3 very quickly. But did you mean something else?

As you have bought a BLUE Jimny, I hope you realise that in one years time you will be expected to be an extremely knowledgeable mechanic. It seems to be the most common colour amongst our forum geniuses (I'm not one of them, the wife's is a red O2).

Sophie,

I'm also in the same boat as you 17, first car and not passed yet but theory out the way. booking my test for the end of next month.

as for your gearing problem i know what your on about it just takes a while to get use to don't worry about it i found the same. took me an hour of driving to get use to it. You just need to select the correct gear i.e third gear corners in my instructors car the jim jam prefers to be in second for.

All the best for your test!

Jack.

Yeah same here - my instructors car's a little different to the Jimny, it's a new Vauxhall Corsa.

Love the Jimny though - much more character than a new Corsa!

Thanks :-)

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHi, nice Jimny you have there. In your position I probably wouldn't tint the windows - your insurance will be expensive enough without adding modifications. You could get a set of sun shades for it instead, like these;

Surely Tinting the rear windows can't be seen as a reason for putting the insurance premium up,if so what about tow hitches, roof bars,a louder horn, them chrome light surrounds, windscreen sun shades, etc.I can understand performance parts and the like affecting it,but tinting the rear glass!.
