I think the whole car insurance industry is totally corrupt ! Everyone is out to make cash out of someones misery when they are involved in an accident !
I got "clipped" in my car.. Totally non fault.. a repairer quoted me £400 cash to repair, including a new wing (£75) and another £25 in trim. The "aggressor" to my car decided £400 was to much and wanted it to go through the insurance..
that's when I discovered hasting direct couldn't organise a pissup in a brewry and ended up getting one of those accident management company's to sort it... Job done, so I thought...

aggresors insurance refused to cough up so it was going to court, that's when I saw the true scale of costs.. 2K for 2 weeks courtesy car (for what was just a few hrs work, the repairer charged £900 for parts?? plus £900 for labour ???? engineers, report, solicitors letters, Total bill was £4800...

I mean wtf? Talk about fraud everywhere !

Forget compare the market or confused if you've put so much as a sticker on your jimny., its been modified, so non of the usual insurance company's will touch you.(at least that's what I discovered after ringing most of them)
Your left with the specialists that can fleece you big time , or don't get insured :(
My gutless tiny jimny costs nearly twice as much to insure as my beautiful Mercedes amg estate , which is probably 10 times more valuable and the C class merc was the most targeted and stolen car in 2017 according to parkers!
work that one out !

Although I am not familiar with auto insurance in the UK, I am with insurance plans in the U.S. and the Philippines. I should indicate here that the experience I have had in those 2 places would lead me to believe that they are about the same wherever you go.

All I can say Helijohn, is that my heart goes out to you.

I started out with nothing & still have most of it left

Don't try claiming from 2gether they were abysmal when I needed them when someone bumped into my maverick. Cheap for a reason.

amazing how this is not like here in Norway at all..
As long as the car is MOT and legal it is ok.
But then almost no mods are ok here for the MOT.
I have not heard of anyone getting a reduced insurance pay out due to anything tech on car.
Only if you want to have extra coverage for your extra gear on the car you would pay more.
If someone hits my car and I have expensive wheels, their insurance will have to replace them.
Usually we have the same insurance company for everything. Health, kids, House, home, stuff, travel, dogs, horses, caravan all in one gigantic bill.

Norway 2005 Jimny M16A VVT, 235 BFG MT, 2" Trailmaster, ARB rear lck, 17%/87% high/low gears.
