17/02/09 - Phil's Jimny - Updated

Phil Bailey (aka jimjim4x4) has sent in some pictures of his Jimny. This is the third one he has built (he must be a glutton for punishment!) and the pictures below show it in all its current glory. Prior to this it was a write off, having had an argument with a bus shelter, so it was a variety of colours as each panel was a different colour to the next....

 

Its looking good and Phil has also started submitting articles to the website. Look here for his "Poor mans speedo converter" article .

Here is the spec.

 

3” suspension lift with ProComp 9000 shocks.

Rear shocks, lower mounts moved inboard.

Strengthened and lengthened panard rods.

Modified and strengthened chassis panard rod mounts. Rear one relocated.

Rotated front axle for correct camber angle.

Front axle moved slightly forward.

Longer steel braided flexi brake pipes.

Front Chassis and cross member, from steering box forward, was removed. New Swan neck Chassis added with much improved approach angle.

Front alloy skid/bash plate.

Front steel bumper to suit mods.

Rear steel bumper.

Front and rear tow balls.

New, much smaller outer diameter, exhaust straight through back box fitted to improve departure angle.

SJ410 transfer box with steel supports and polybush mounts. “Poor Man’s” Speedo conversion.

Lengthened/modified propshafts.

Shaved front wheel arches. Rear wing filler plates and arch extensions fitted to cover for missing rear bumper.

Rear lights in back door.

Rear seats removed and flat plywood floor fitted with rear and side bulkheads.
Spare wheel carried on rear floor with ratchet straps/securing rings.

Various wheels and tyres used, but mainly Daihatsu 7 spoke alloys with 215 80 15 Greenway Macho’s or a second set with 235 75 15 Technic Amazon’s.

Full Alarm system.

All mods, other than springs and shocks, are home designed and made.
