space is a big factor... i want to take my mates on my trips with me as well as having enough space to be self reliant for a week...

Also alot of motorway miles was a contributing factor... i am 6ft+ so being in a small car for hours on end is really straining

Their is also engine size... the jims little 1.3 was struggling to maintain motorway miles where the cruisers 3 liter turbo with auto box and cruise control takes motorway miles in its stride

I may end up keeping the jim and turning it into a play toy... as i love the jim as a off roader but not as a expedition vehicle? re-gratefully not....

Once you've ploughed money into a project you know you'll not get it back and Jimny's are not worth fortunes when modified like Landrovers can be, yet they cost fortunes to modify, so it is likely to be the case that it's not worth selling it if you have the space to keep it and can get a trailer to pull it around on as just an offroader.

Jimny's are awesome little offroaders too!

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationNo eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI have the same idea as you, The Jim does everything I want it to but the capacity of the boot etc is a disadvantage..

I am torn between an 80 series Landcruiser or an older Prado which I have my beedy eye on at the moment

Or This one

I like the character of the old Prado, just something about them

I was looking at the LC Colorado as below

Comes with seating for 7 as standard But when you remove the rear two seat gives you a large payload area

Also comes with Rear Locker as standard and a few extra goodies like cruise control etc

And it dose not take much to turn it into something like this

I still prefer the older ones for some reason, I would love an 80 series but they bring stupid money for the age of them..

The 80 series is to big for Jerseys roads really.... The Colorado is not much wider then the Jimny so its the best choice For Jersey

Also there is a fair few of them on the island!

i nearly went to look at a SWB one of these. but the seller reckoned it had independent front suspension, which put me right off tbh

The Baby ones (3.0L TDs) have independent suspension yes... However this dose not seam to hamper the off road capability much...

It would suffer under heavy off road of course but that is where the rear locker comes in handy

The daddy ones (4.5L upwards) has live axles back and front

I am keeping the Jimny for the foreseeable future!

So my plans are to make it a little more friendly on long trips and camping

Starting with A split charge system with a internal distribution board including a few constant live 12v sockets and constant live (with isolation switch) 230v outlet with the T-max battery monitor mounted to it

While i am playing around in the cabin i will tidy it all up by removing the clutter from the dash... By buying a new CB and mounting it in the DIN slot under the Radio

I have also ordered a inside/outside temp monitor and amber flashing lights as i am planning on using the Jimny for a Voluntary 4x4 Recovery service similar to 4x4 Response UK

Then looking at some Goodridge BFGs and some spacers and maybe topped off with a steering damper to make the Jim alot more stable on the road.

Any suggestions would be handy guys! :)
