In allegedly 2 to 3 days it will be a backup anyway though it will still be useful for quick checking. To be fair I have been thinking about a more comprehensive code kit that isn't just suzuki specific so I'm now waiting for a play with the new toy!

Ooh ok so I thought when you said sophisticated that you meant good amateur level especially at the price point. This is not that. This will do things like abs bleeding and immobiliser stuff. This is actually more medium independent garage level. Much likey! Ima has a queue of random car mates stopping me from working if I let on!

Yes, it is quite sophisticated in some areas. As I mentioned, I looked at it first for Range Rover Sport suspension issues where it can test and re-calibrate the air suspension. They do a dedicated Range Rover version for £120 but when I looked further I saw I can get this universal one for £240 and that it claimed Suzuki coverage.
I had a play in the LCV last night and took a look at some more of the "command" functions. Whilst commanding individual lights off and on and the dashboard instruments to do sweeps is kind of cool some of the other commands have more relevance. As you say there is some sort of ABS purge listed and I did get it happily turning injectors off and on and advanced the VVT. Got some nice graphs from some other sensors.
I did have a couple of issues. At one point it lost communications and I had to reboot everything (device and power off/on the car) and its auto search of the VIN seems flaky. I read online that often you have to send commands two or three times to get them to work, Certainly that was the case with turning the injectors off and on. In some instances the language is a little misleading. In the case of the injectors, when you are runniing the test it has two buttons marked "Deactivate" and "Activate". So I interpreted the "deactivate" button as switching off the injector and "activate" as turning it on. However "activate" means start the test ie switch OFF the injector and "deactivate" means end the test, ie turn the injector ON again.
I also read online that the immobiliser re-programme and the key re-programme was very flaky on European cars (BMW, Merc etc) but that they found it good on Asian and Japanese cars. I went deep into the menus on both those tasks and it seemed to be happy talking to the units but I refrained from actually re-programming my working immobiliser and keys
I have not found the Aircon yet, on the Range Rover it has full aircon control as I exercised that the other day but nothing was obvious on the Suzuki.
I will try on the late Gen3 and early Gen3 over the weekend, Obviously the functions become more limited on the older cars.
Here is a pdf of the module map for the gen4 Jimny, modules it the boxes with the dashed lines are optional. The Jimny calls the AIrbag system the SDM whilst the tool calls it the SRS.

Well after the initial scan bellerophon is clear which I kinda anticipated, having had a play with some of the other things like battery condition it was rolling a Bluetooth screen which I don't think I had got it could be an add on though and I'll look into it. Meantime I suddenly feel I need to spend some time with the instruction book so that's tonight's reading. Generally though I'm quite happy with it and it's quite intuitive for general code use.

Still wondering though, is it good practice to once in a while check a Jimny with a scanner although there are no apparent issues?

I was trying to give some talking points for the video, but thank you Fordem for replying nevertheless.
Sir,
I have a 2012 gen 3 that happily drives me wherever I point it to. Why should I get a diagnostic scanner?
If I happen to be able to borrow one, what should I look for in the Jimny's system?
If you're happy to be at the mercy of whatever dealer or independent mechanic you take your car to, then you don't need a scanner.
Still wondering though, is it good practice to once in a while check a Jimny with a scanner although there are no apparent issues?

@The Coil Spring thanks for the input, I will talk about this in the video.
@Lambert the battery tester is a separate Bluetooth add on device for about £40. I am thinking about one but I am specifically interested in whether the tool overall can monitor or report on the LIM circuit from the alternator as this seems problematic for some people in their gen4
