In all seriousness, the noisy diff might still be useful to a Jimny owner who uses his machine mainly offroad, e.g. as a farm hack.ย This is pretty common in the UK, and if it's the same where you live, you may be able to get (a little bit of) money out of the removed set to help offset the repair cost.ย Just a thought.ย Good luck with the fix.

Nothing for it but some new parts, then.ย ยI already have a subwoofer and 4 good speakers in the car. Also upgraded to AT tyres last year. Still the sound is heard on the highway at 100 km/h with the music on full blast

If you like me decide to buy a complete axle you would also get a stock of other parts.
I have had use of the extra brake backing plates, brake pipe, pipe clamps, half shafts in addition to the diff.
Would have had use for the extra axle housing too last year but I managed to fix the old one for now with my welder.
But i guess I use the jimny a bit harder than average

Pre-2005 automatics have 4.1 ratio diffs, not 3.9 as mentioned earlier. My diff whines after I fitted an LSD and set the backlash by eye. Just part of the car's character for me!

edited and corrected my earlier post up there.
as far as I can see still all autos have 4.09 (4.1)
axles from ABS fitted cars will also fit on non abs but, the hole for the sensor must be plugged.
Diffs will be the same.

I was under the impression that 05 onwards all had 4.3 diffs and it was the transfer case ratios that changed to suit the leggy automatic transmissions. But I've never had a newer auto Jimny diff on the bench to check that!

I know nothing more than what I learned from the sources I found in here, that are in the links and pics in the post on page 1 i edited.
It is in the wiki here.
www.bigjimny.com/mediawiki/index.php/Tra...ssion_gearing_ratios
cannot remember ever having seen otherwise either, but then I mostly check and dive into the manual parts.
I have not counted cogs or seen any auto parts, but I have been thru all the different diffs and gears in the grimjeeper calculator trying to combine parts to see if I could get around my big wheels "problem". It all made sense then at least.
