it should just plug in, pretty sure the connector was the same or easy to adapt to.

The reverse switch on the r7me has wires with a white plug on the end. I cut that off and the same on the Jimny harness and got a pair of built connectors to connect both sets of wires together

Hi everyone please HELP

I have a 2006 Suzuki Jimny with an M13 engine and electronic assist features. The previous owner converted the gearbox to an R7ME (manual 5-speed).

The problem is that when the car encounters an uphill road, especially on the highway, it becomes very weak. I have to downshift to third gear and keep the throttle fully pressed to be able to climb. In general, the gear ratios are very long.

The car has 205/75/R15 tires.

Any help is welcome.

Thank you very much!

Unless they have also switched to a manual lever action transfer box then yes the gearing is going to be far too high for the engine. The manual transmission with electric transfer is 1to1 in high the older lever action transfer is 1.3 to1. Fortunately it's relatively straight forward to swap as the body already has the hole for the lever covered with a bolt on plate.

That's to be expected with the gearbox swap. 5th gear in your old gearbox was the same as 4th gear in the one you have now, and it's reasonable in a standard Jimny to expect to drop down a gear on hills. Usually you'd drop 5th to 4th, and with the gear ratios you now have that's the equivalent of dropping 4th to 3rd.

As Lambert says, fitting a manual transfer case will go someway to fixing this, but then you will have the opposite problem where the gears are 10% lower than original. That 10% difference can be fixed by changing the differentials to those from a pre-2005 manual car. You may find it easier to go back to an R72 gearbox, which is the correct part for your car.
