3 Wheel Drive ?????!!!!!!!
It is possible for it to appear to lock when off the car and then not lock on the car as there may be too much drag for it to slide on the splined shaft or other reasons. I've had it.
Have you cleaned the hubs out? If not, open them up and spray a bit of WD40 in them to free them up and clear out some grease if they are over greased.
I'm convinced you have not snapped a shaft or anything like that. You'd know if the CV was gone as you'd hear it, and I doubt you would have enough grip in your tyres to snap a shaft.

The state of the hub is erelavent mate, the fact is that the splined drive shaft doesn't turn when the prop shaft does.

If both wheels are off the ground both wont turn (mine didn't anyway) the one with the least resistance will turn the other wont.
Sorry if i've missed this bit but is the prop turning when you rotate the drive shaft? or is the other front drive shaft turning when you rotate it. Get someone to check it out.
My head was done in when trying to figure out why mine wasn't working. I just locked the hubs and tried it on the field and it was all working so didnt worry about it after that.
Sory if this post hasn't helped one bit lol

There is no connection between the shaft and the diff on that side so something must be broken.

I feel your frustration gromit!Gromit wrote: Sorry I thought I had made it clear that when just the front nearside wheel is off the ground the driveshaft turns but doesn't turn the propshaft when in 4wd.

I am in a world of hurt with my vacum hubs!!! I have orderd some manual ones from Germany. They fit direct and don't need adapter plates!
I hope this works but I fear it could be a halfshaft or the diff! Ouch
In my humble it sounds like u have done a half shaft! I darthlockie on here has done a half shaft and he says it made no noises or crunches etc!!
