Just a quick thought if you do need a new shaft - I have read that not all CV's are the same due to differences in spine count - is it the same with shafts?
I don't know the answer but I think it needs clarifying in case shafts have differing spline counts or it won't fit in your diff!
Martin - what's the score with shafts, spline counts and CV's in this respect??? I think it was a thread on another forum that you responded to about this that made me think of it.

Don't need a shaft after all. Just spent 4 hours out in the freezing cold stripping it down to see what was wrong. CV Joint totally shattered, nowt left of it so suprised I didn't hear it go.
Amazing thing is that my local motor factors had one in stock and I managed to get there 10 minutes before they closed. Was £52 which was more than I expected but it means that I will be back in 4wd for Tong - YIPPEE !!!

Only trouble is that I have just about destroyed the 4 bolts that hold the hub assembly and disc sheild. They were rusted to hell so I had to take a chisel to them. Don't suppose anyone knows what thread they are as they are definately not metric ?
