Recently bought an automatic Jimny amd have noticed the the overdrive off light occassionally comes on without the button on the gearshift having been pressed. I'm guessing it isn't meant to do this, but can anyone tell me why it's happening?

Wish I had an overdrive on my Jimny, would love to drop down from 4100rpm @ 100 k's to... anything !

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

In the early jimny, the switch was connected directly to the light, and the gearbox controller.
In the twin cams the switch connects to the controller, and the controller triggers the light.
You can ground the monitor plug and the OD off light will flash out a trouble code, I don't think it comes on by itself to indicate one though.
Most likely the wire that goes up the gearlever is damaged and earthing out somewhere, or water has got into a connector.
