ok so ive read loads about the lift kits, gonna have a 3" pro comp probably and will fit myself.

Ive fitted many sets of coilovers on cars but not a lift kit, it looks pretty simple, is it? How long did it take you lot to fit the kit, just like to have an idea if its gonna be a long job or not? I take it that theres no special tools just basic stuff?

Will the original springs come out without compressors with standard lenght brake hoses? (read somewhere they wouldnt allow enough drop for the spring to come loose to remove)

Brake hoses, im not fitting those myself but how much have you payed or should i expect to pay to have these fitted?

Sorry for the questions but hope there not the usual "which lift kit and how much lol"

Anyone from north east?

cheers gary.

Hi Biggaz, I'm from the North East, where abouts in the North East are you?

I fitted a 3" lift to mine a few months ago and it was very easy. The hardest part was getting most of the bolts undone becasue they were pretty much all seized solid (so use lots of WD40 before you start the work). To answer your questions, I would say it would take about 2 - 3 hours if all the bolts came off easily. You wont be able to pop the springs out with the standard brake hoses as the axles wont drop far enough. No special tools are required, just sockets and spanners. The front brake hoses are really easy to fit. The only problem I had was rounding the union on the rear brake line, so had to re-run a short length of copper brake pipe (that was a bit of a pain in the @ss).

Have you bought your shocks yet? I have fitted Pro Comp ES3000's and personally I find them far to stiff. If I lifted again I would go for Trailmaster comfort shocks which are bespoke for the Jimny unlike the Pro Comps. However if you go for Pro Comp, maybe go for the ES1000's (I think there softer than ES3000  ?)

ahh cheers mate, im from washington.... where you from?

Ive JUST ordered a 3" pro comp kit with 1000 shocks, so should be softer. Trailmaster was just a bit more money....

Did you get your hoses from llama? seem good price. I just didnt want to have to bleed my brakes ive always been afraid of doing them lol!

Cheers for the heads up on the fitting, sounds simple enough but yeh rusty nuts are a nightmare lol, spoils a straightforward job!!

Got some steels and bfg muds on order aswell. Oh, did you have alloys or steels on originally, i need to know if the nuts off the alloys will be ok....

cheers gary.

Ahh cool, I live in both Newcastle (when im working) and Middlesbrough (when I have a few days off). I would love to see what your ES1000 feel like when you've fitted them. If you wanted to see the ES3000 in action, give me a shout and I could pop over some time. I know what you mean about the brakes, I dont like messing around with them too much.

My extended hoses came from www.jimnybits.co.uk , as did about 80% of my lift components.

Are you getting castor correction bushes and adjustable panhard rods?

I got mine from Llama, the guy is really helpful and the prices are good. As Adam said, fitting them shouldn't be difficult. I have a garage round the corner from where I live though and the bloke there installed mine for pocket money.

Ah cool, newcastle/middlesbro not far at all, thought there would be nobody up here! yeh wen ive installed the 1000's your welcome to see what there like.

Penshaw! even closer! Im always up herrington park with the dog so will have to look out for ya, mines dark red over silver, will put some pics up when i start adding bits.

As for the brakes, i went with llama, £50 delivered was by far the best price and he is super helpfull on the phone, think ill price up getting them fitted locally, cant imagine they would charge too much..

Oh, if it fit the lift kit first, can i drive it onroad ok with standard lenghts until there fitted?

Correction bushes will come after the lift is installed, gonna see what its like first, ran out of money for panhard rods for now lol! Are they badly needed straight away?

cheers for the help, gaz.

yeah Gaz, the guy at llama is sound and the prices are excellent.

I fitted a 2" lift and the standard brake hoses were fine on the road before I got the longer ones fitted. You'll need to get them sorted before you go off tarmac though.

I used to be worried about bleeding the brakes but i've had to replace the wheel cylinder twice. Don't fanny about with an eezibleed thing or a mate helping. A mechanic friend of mine told me the simplest way, undo the the nipple and leave it, it'll bleed itself. I've done this a few times and only had to pump the pedal myself until it was hard then repeat. Be careful not to over tighten the nipple though, i was a bit hamfisted with mine hence the 2 replacements!

Black Jimny's don't get stuck!
