Best way to get more power is...? was created by davert85
Short of an engine swap (il tackle this later) is there anyway to get a bit more power out of a jimny?
Since my lift, winch, mud tyres etc shes gone from quite sluggish to "am i actually moving?"
Any tips greatly welcomed
Thanks in advance
David

You can get high-comp pistons, open intake and exhaust. Reground camshaft or race cam. Megasquirt ECU.
And/or install a twin-cam head from a Swift GTI.
But easiest and cheapest way is to install a G16B engine. Or even better yet, if you run an M13a engine, swap it for a M16

Even with every engine mod available (air filter, de-cat, manifold, re-map) you'd be lucky to gain 10hp. Compared to an engine swap it's just not worth the money.
I'm not sure what size tyres you have but if they are 29inch or bigger your gearing will be miles out and this has a massive affect on performance. A transfer box swap will restore some lost performance and give you better ratios for crawling about off-road.

Yep, that's the way to go I reckon. I have done very little to mine over the last 14 years and 410,000 K's. I've always accepted the vehicle for what it is, an amusing and capable runabout that can mostly mix it with the big boys, better than most on soft sand and soooo economical.

And for what it is the Jimny is quite powerful. It holds 100 going up one of the local hills on road than what my brother and work mates hiluxs do (they can only hold 85 foot flat).
What tyres are you running? It all comes down to gearing, muds are heavier etc etc.
Thats why I stick to 205/70 size as I dont do pay and plays so rarely see any deep ruts or ruts that I cant straddle the middle and outside when i'm shooting.
