Nah, leaving them locked won't have caused it. Like I say, I think they just need a bit of tlc.
Just don't over grease them. They just need a little bit to stop binding. It's probably old grease gone hard in the cold stopping them sliding inside.

if the hubs are at fault and they may be, a strip and clean/relube should sort it. i bought a set that needed rebuilding and its a quickish job . check as mentioned in other posts. once you have cured the faulty hub , i'd also redo the working one.

Just watched a video of a rebiuld looks easy ill be doing them over the weekend can I just undo the hubs anf pull them off with every thing else still there wheels etc

to be honest i can't remember whether the wheel has to come off or not. but i do remember you can strip and rebuild them on the dining room table 
i bought the grease and sealant from the bigjimny shop. martin will tell you what you need.

no need to remove anything else to take the hubs off so very easy 5min job

cool ill be doing them in a bit just in the middle of making the mould for the fast back hard top right now and its going quite well
