Emissions failure - lambda reading was created by Mick C
Was at a local garage this afternoon getting some stuff sorted, it was pretty quiet so I thought I'd get the emissions tested seeing as the mot is coming up in the next month or so.

Anyway, it failed on the lambda reading :( - what should I be looking at to sort this, the tester said it could be something like a hole in the zorst (he was kind of saying the reading suggested it may be running lean)? I think the CO reading was a bit near the mark too.

The engine (G13bb) runs / idles as it should, doesn't smoke or burn oil or anything and when I do an OBDII scan it's clean, no EML etc... Although the exhaust has def seen better days there are no major/obvious leaks.

I'm gonna have to address this in the very near future so would appreciate some pointers :)

Exhaust blow as you know
Lambda sensor
Air leak after the throttle flap
Exhaust/cat not hot enough

If it was a little high stuff a rag in the exhaust with the probe all that does is make a little pressure making the lambda work more and some times bring it down

Also is it hard or soft top because iv found when doing mots on jimnys the soft tops are harder to get through the emissions

Thanks for the quick response ;) It's a soft top... :pinch:

Some good pointers there - if it was an air leak after the throttle or a dodgy lambda sensor would I expect to experience some rough running? Could it be the cat itself?

Lambda sensor gone down doesnt alway cause a problem just brings the light on but seeing as you have no faults its unlikly take it back and ask the to put a rag up it lol

Could it be the cat itself though?
