Hello Ruby2, congratulations with V.I.N.CENT. !!! B)
If you are reversing don't forget you have a "braked" caravan, so if you reverse it then you activate the brakes if the system is regulated to sensitive or is not functioning correctly.
Could also be an older system where you have to block the activation for the brakes manually when reversing.
Maybe you can check this whilst reversing and someone (with some technical skills) is looking if it's activating the brake when reversing. The best to do is testing this is on a big parking. Also a good place to learn how to manoevre it.
Also the experience to make a emergency stop, then you know what to expect whenever it's really needed ! :woohoo:
Anyway that was what i did and glad i did tried it for several times, even when slightly turning as you would be into a road bent. Can give you some goosebumps, but a lot of experience !!! :)

Cheers Juan
Oh heck :-/ yes I can see what you're saying there :-0
Hope I haven't done any damage to the braking setup? Is that possible?
Ta
Richard

There you go it's not as difficult as you thought is it?? ;)
I generally just unhitch my Freedom as well as the light weight makes it easy to move around.
On some sites you can drive around and in to your pitch.
I've never had any problem with the brakes when reversing. Probably the light weight?
Did you feel the brakes coming on when you were braking? There's usually a very slight delay and you can then feel the caravan brakes coming on.
You'll be busy planning your summer hols now then ?

I started off high and worked my way down ever since :-)

Hello Ruby2, a selfbraking caravan will normally only be braking in a forward direction when the system is functioning correctly, but it think it could be malfunctioning when :
1- Rusted/or not beiing serviced for longtime (standing still with handbrake on for long time can effect the correct working of it).
2- Brake was regulated (to strong) to be shure they work but could also cause the reverse problem.
3- It can be an old system (from around 1970's) with manual handling or a (old) after market change.
Also when you have to reverse even on a not so very steep slope these brakes can come on.
That's why i proposed you to make a try on a parking lot, :) best to do a test as following :
-First of all when you brake with your car do you feel the brakes from your caravan are responding ?
-When standing still and you start to drive again in forward direction do you feel the brakes on the caravan are getting deactivated or they stay on for some distance before loosening?
-When you braked your car and start to reverse please take a look if your brakes are loosening up.
If you're not sure play safe and do a complete service on it.
Sorry if i wasn't very clear in my first posting, my English is not so perfect as i would it to be.

Cheers Gilburton.
I have to admit that I didn't feel the trailer brakes coming on and off, it did feel very secure though and I didn't at one point feel ant pushing from the caravan. The only think I felt was a littke delay between setting off and then feeling the van on the back. It really did tow well, I'm very impressed!
Yes, lots of holiday planning to get sorted, and a list of things to do and buy for V.I.N.CENT ;-)

If it's got an ALKO chassis it compensates when reversing.
