My Jimny does that too. Only in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear, between 1500 and 2000 rpm (1700 is the worst). I can hear the rear windows rattling...

They all do that Sir ;)

New trailing arm bushes at the back and a rear UJ made mine reduce from self destruct mode to just very annoying.

The diesel has one of those harmonic damper thingies on the nose of the rear differential, most likely to reduce this, I suspect it is a resonance problem with the propshaft/axle, made worse by worn bushes or universal joints.

You could try bolting a lump of lead (depleted uranium would be better) to the bolt holes under the rear diff nose, this ought to move the vibration to a lower speed.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Sorry for not replying to posts, I have been away. When you say they all do that mine did not have any vibration at all until I had the gearbox rebuilt and a new clutch fitted, now it is virtually un-driveable at 30-40 ,mph in 3rd, 4th or 5th.
I know the exhaust is a flexi type with springs on the bolts and fire rings so the joints can flex, I messed about with it and the vibration reduced for a while but came back after I had driven a few miles. It may be resonating when it is flexed by the engine moving under load, not sure though :S Will investigate further an keep you posted, cheers

Hi, been away for a while, no further joy with reducing the vibrations, anyone know where I could get one of the weights that was mentioned by façade, from a diesel to bolt onto the dif? Cheers
