If the exhaust isn't blowing why replace it?

Exactly Kirk. I'm just going to sort the rattling heat shield and wait for the rest of the exhaust system to fall apart. Not too long looking at it tho' (probably when the weather improves).

The catalyst under the passengers feet has a flat heatshield dab welded to edges of the flat flange around the box.

The dab welds pop off, and the shield buzzes at whatever speed it is that you normally drive (they know ;) )

I just drilled straight through the shield and flange on both sides and self-tappered the shield on.

Some people remove the shield altogether, but I figure that it helps keep the catalyst hot, so it will last a bit longer.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

Mine is connected together with nuts and bolts. ?! Didn't fancy trying to drill them out and having the drill bit jumping off and damaging something, so a bit of lateral thinking. I'll wrap an exhaust bandage around it. Worth a try for 99p.

If it withstands the heat OK and removes the annoying noise, I may see if it helps with another annoying noise and try it on the missus to keep her quiet.

Talking of which, better go, she's got laryngitis and I don't want to miss a minute of it.
