Leave it to cool, which has probably happened now, keep the ignition off - key out of ignition - turn it over by hand with a torque wrench and suitable socket on the crankshaft pully bolt (torque wrench set to a high torque setting - only using it for it's ratchet).

Or take all the spark plugs out to remove the compression and use a normal sized ratchet to turn it over by hand.

If you can turn it over by hand it ain't seized and won't bugger your starter motor aswell.

If it is seized it's had it and you need a second hand engine from Camsuzuki on their ebay shop.

If it ain't seized drain the oil, run a flushing oil in it and then run it on cheap supermarket oil for a bit, then change it again for decent oil, changing the filter each time.

The only thing is that if it was that crappy oil, the oil ways could get blocked with what comes out on the flushingoil!

thanks guys you have been fantastic yes its a dohc engine,
and i made the mistake in trying to start it when it cooled down so fingers crossed it should be ok then ? full flush and fresh everything and in theory we should be ok then guys ? i did notice that behind the filler cap it was full of horrible old black crap ( oil) so if its in there it must be blocking everywhere and not protecting where it should and with it cutting out maybe the engine has protected itself ?

Did it not start then when you tried to get it going when cold?

Try whipping all the plugs out, cleaning them and turning it over with no plugs in to fire out any crap that has got past the piston rings then. You may have a load of oil in the combustion chambers that the plugs have tried to burn and have got themselves all blackened up over.

Be aware, when doing this, if there is any liquid in the cylinders it will fly a long way as it gets expelled out the spark plug holes! So perhaps place an old towel over them to catch the worst of it.

Sounds like you might be lucky enough to get away with a good flush, several lots of new oil with filters each time and some new plugs.

Then look after it with regular oil changes and don;t buy a car that's not been looked after again!

ye to be honest im normally really anal about these things and was booked in for service on wed was only popping down the road .
well fingers crossed bit of tlc tomorow and she will back on the road making me smile again .
instead im back in the bmw with its tail happy advernture till its back on the road
