Removing steering box?

Welding bits on wont really help. Ive been smacjking the pitman arm with a spanner and then heating it up and attaching a slide hammer with puller attachment around the arm to belt it off. Ive left it soaking in plusgas and gonna try again tomorrow. If that doesnt work gonna try freezing the box shaft then heat the arm and smack it off. Failing that I will have to try sawing a diagonel to split the arm but its risky cos if I go too far I bugger the splines.

NO hot and cold dont go well you could damage it more id be more inclind to cut it off just take care also dont forget about the oil seal around the end of the shaft when heating it up when your heating it up are you getting it glowing red hot

No not glowing, too worried about damaging the steering box.

However ive just discovered another unrelated problem. Whilst submitting these threads my son has been playing in the jim, spinning the steering wheel round and round with no steeringshaft attached

Not sure if the wheel will need centralising or how to do it

Drive along with no hands on the wheel, then re-fit steering wheel without turning the wheels at all, wheels will be going dead straight due to castor angle.

i didnt mean weld anything too the pitman arm, literally run a bead of weld around it to heat it up, the heat (at first) will be very localised to the arm itself rather than heating the whole lot up with a blow lamp (splines will also be expanding so not gaining you alot) then give it a god smack as soon as you stop welding

did the steering lock not go on well if he has spun it that much it may have damaged the airbag ring behind the steering wheel its wound like a clock spring
