OK guys a trip down memory lane and one one-one-upmanship .................
1922 Morgan Deluxe (Hobby vice!)
1934 Morgan Super Sports (Full time transport)
1928 Morgan Aero (Full time transport)
1952 Morgan F Super ( Ford Engine) (Full time transport) Two seater and baby had to travel between the then wife's legs on the floor, with the pram over the back wheel. note not a buggy!!
I've had them all and they had real kingpins and were basically all the same. Sliding pillar suspension, still used today by Morgan . A sod to in-line ream but oh so simple! this is a sample of my previous transport. Modest or what? I feel a barrage coming on.

I got stung at Bolton's sister branch BCC Suzuki Bury this summer for kingpins on one side, here is the breakdown of the bill:

Kingpin assembly Qty x2 £73.92
Bearing kingpin Qty x2 £48.44
Seal assembly Knuckle Qty x1 £25.32
Labour £150.00
Total £357.22 including VAT

I know the forum says you dont need the kingpins but the dealership insists, and these are my fifth set since new

Martins Kit £23.00

I have also got an MGB so the term kingpin was a bit strange when I saw what the Jimny's kingpins were like

So when the bloke at BCC Blackburn said it was about £400, he wasn't far out. Except I thought he was talking about both sides for that money.
Will definitely have to get a workshop manual.

Nowadays "kingpin" can refer to the axis around which the wheels pivot, we mature types expect a solid pin, preferably nailed to a beam axle ;)

I was wrong about the MGB, it doesn't use a thread as a bearing, I'd have sworn the lower trunion was threaded like the Midget/A40 with two very large nuts screwed into it, must have been the A55/A60.

Now the Spitfire was a masterpiece, the whole weight of the car was supported by a screw thread as the lower pivot, under premanent tension from the springs. Any wear and the whole lot flys apart, and the wheel folds flat.

Anyway, the jimny bearings are easy enough to do, good job really, as the poor sealing means they fail on a regular basis.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
