If a little bit of heat comes through as you say, then get your thermos stat changed at a garage.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Well done!
Now when the engine is fully cold, undo the silver radiator cap and top the water up right to the top as full as it will go, then replace the silver cap and top up the translucent bottle with yellow flip cap to the line.
Then keep an eye on the translucent bottle as it may go down slightly at first as any air comes out of the radiator.

i fitted an in line electric pump to my hose from the engine and it helps circulate the water much better, red hot now. mine was like yours just warm i changed cap, stat etc and it would never warm up even though the engine was hot.
