Engine Oil was created by Jimny_2000
Hi,
Recently bought a 2000 plate Jimny with a (GB13)engine.
Have found this site brilliant in helping me fix the first problem which was no 4wd (air leak).
Now l want to give it a quick service. Manual recommends 10w/30. However l cant find any except for Castrol GPS for motorbikes or at over inflated prices on ebay being sold in bottles of 1L.
I was going to just stick in some Mobil Super S 10w/40 as it's on sale in halfords for £20. But thought l would quickly ask.
So could you please tell me what you guy's use and where you get it from?
Thanks in advance.

With the inherant camshaft problems due to blocked oilways mine always has some expensive synthetic, but i cant remember for the life of me what that is....

I've used Halford own for years in all sorts of cars and don't regard it to be cheap rubbbish. It's not much cheaper than other brands and I expect to have been made by one of the expensive brands for Halfords.
I think the key to it is regular oil and filter changes really.
People often say lots about the quality of the oil filter, but agin, if you change it regularly it should not be an issue.

Hi Halfords oil is Comma rebranded with their name. No problem with it - I use their 10/40 semi synthetic which seems fine.
On the subject of oils I use 75/90 semi synthetic for diffs, g box and transfer box. I noticed recently that the Halfords version of this was much lighter in colour, almost clear, so I thought maybe there was a batch problem with it. However after a lot of phone calls Comma eventually said it was exactly the same spec and that all additives were the same. Just a slightly different colour. So quite ok to use.

I use Comma fully synthetic 5-40 which is probably a bit of overkill but I only use it because that's what I put in my other car which has a rover K series.
I generally use the full rev range (AKA rag it) when driving my cars and only change the oil every 6000 miles so I figure the fully synthetic is a bit of an insurance policy.
The thing to watch is not to go back from synthetic to mineral without flushing the engine as i believe that can cause issues.

I use Castrol Magnatec (sp?) - expensive, but worth it .. and I aim to change engine-oil every 3months, and use boring Halfords 80/90 Oil for Axles, and Gearbox, and aim to change the 80/90 every 6months!
