the M51 engine is not the same as the Td4, m51 is 6 cylinder 136bhp, td4 is only a 4 cylinder, not sure on power figures. both are elctronically controlled fuel pumps so will have a wack of electronics to go with them. i deffinately wouldn't put an M51 in anything, ive got one in my range rover (daily drive) and can't stand it! ( i know a range rover weighs double what a jimny does but compared to the cossy motor it would be shocking) im a big petrol convert now, was planning to use a daihatsu 2.8 motor in my project untill i went and watched a few challenge events and saw / heard how much the big tyres and deep mud bogged down even the higher powered diesels. the m51 in my range lacks any low down torque at all, and they suffer hot start problems caused by worn fuel pumps, and cracking heads. the cossy deffinately gets my vote ;)
