Thanks for all your imput chaps...
Thats given me lots to think about.
May I also ask how tough are these autobox's.
And how long is there life expectancy...
You have to pick your gear before going down the hill in snow.
Cant bump start.

I have never had a Jimny auto, but from what I have picked up from the internet, you have to be diligent in changing the fluid regularly otherwise they overheat.
On the gearing front, can you just slip it into "1" when needed?

I can choose 1st gear but it wont change down until it is doing less than 2000 revs in low box.
Engine braking is ok once its in first, but wheel speed has to came down slow enough.
I felt far safer in my manual before in this instant as no need to apply the brakes.
As far as off road it is a smooth ride no stalling. And I find that it grips slightly better in wet mud.
I think that it is because the torque converter allows gradule power.
My jimny b4 had a 410sj t box 215 75 15 with 1" inch spacer and a rear arb.
Not good for motorway as too low geared but brill off road.
If had to choose I would choose my old truck for off road as I have a constant need to fiddle with sticks and buttons. when I say sticks I mean gear stick. The auto just takes the fun out of it a bit,as it does everything for you. The only good thing I can think of in favour for an auto is the fact you can chuck big wheels on it and you're good to go. Instead of all the hassle of getting lower geared t box.

Would the lower ratios of a Rocklobster transfer box not reduce the work of the auto box and help keep it cooler?
Would the lower ratios have an effect on when changes gear? I don't know how they work.

Sounds broken
It should drop into 1 as soon as it can do so without over reving the engine, that should be at about 20mph in low, about 3500rpm I guess.
If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

Just been out and tried it. I almost sure it changed down at 3500 so I tried it a second time and it changed down from 3rd too second at 3500 and second too first at 2000 at 15 mph.
Going up the gears I can reach 3500 before it goes from first low to second.
I have to say that if it did changed down at 3500 revs too first I think my steering wheell would have a few teehth left in it.:pinch:
Thanks kirkynut I like your input.
What I would like to do is to get a hold of a 2007 auto electric t box so I can get the lower gears in
low box. As I find the jimny t box smooth for motorways.
The next mod is the rear prop from spine too UJ as I have heard that they can break.
