No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI think it is easiest to weld a 2" receiver to front of Jimny and then use a winch cradle to go in the front or rear as required. Also means that you can leave the winch at home when not required.

some of you are missing the point.

I'm not interested in a centremounted winch because I want to use it as a rear winch also.

I'm only considering this because of better approach-angle when driving up hills. Also I want as much of the weight centrered as possible, if possible.

Also, this is for an offroader only, any cradle is not necessary.

I've tried to get access the ORA forum, for no luck with that yet.

ORA sell a winch bumper that gives a pretty good approach angle - I have one - my only thoughts on it are that its a pity they didn't make the 'letter box' opening inline with the bottom of the drum rather than lining it up with the middle. The effect of this is that the rope comes off the bottom layer on the winch and then up to the opening and then possibly down to the tree or whatever creating extra wear on both the rope and the fairlead. For all that a good bumper.
Apart from that I am happy with mine and think that a bit of weight at the front can be a good thing for driving up steep rocky hills. It stops the front from becoming light, or lifting. On a steep hill the natural balance of weight is backwards so rear end grip shouldn't be a problem. If you are climbing over a rocky step some front weight is definitely good.

Looking at mine last night, the front cross member behind the bumper is made from very thin pressed steel and has very little structure to it.

I wonder if a better approach might be to remove this altogether and replace it with a structural winch tray / cross member. This would move the winch back several inches and give you a decent base for recovery points.

Certainly a good idea. But I dont't know how much you can move back a new cross member. I guess at some point it would interfere with engine and/or steering parts.
