The wiring goed though the rubber duct into the body and then is routed out of sight.
I use a 1 Meter coiled extension to attatch to a trailer.

This keeps the electrics clear of 90% of the water we go wading though

Mmm...Good idea, I think I might do that with mine.
At the moment it's as the others have done, mounted to the n/s by the number plate but whoever wired it up, didn't do a great job.
So have just ordered a new socket, cable, rubber cover (mine's gone quite hard and loose) and a pair of s/s sprung number plate clips. These are so I can remove my number plate very easily when the trailer is not in use. So if some scroat pinches it, instead of a number plate, there will just be the word 'STOLEN' in view.
I will be soldering the joints as I hate those coloured Lucar connector joints. Ok for a temporary joint but I much prefer a soldered joint everytime. You can always tape them to bodywork if you think they may become brittle and break down.(?)

Another plus fitting the socket on the door, if I get round to making/buying and fitting a hd steel bumper, it'll be one less job having to do the socket again. :)

When you attached the socket to the bumper what did you do just drill through, washers on the inside type thing?

Yes, mine had s/s cap screws with large s/s 'penny' washers and s/s nuts.
The wiring had been taken from behind the rear lights in the bumper, not from behind the interior trim on the n/side as in the above 'How to Do It'.
Probably why they weren't working correctly!
