well the stem seals i expect would cost no more than £20 as part of a head gasket/rebuild kit. i estimate it would take a day to strip the head and change the seals. thats if you know what you are doing. a garage would charge on average £40 an hour.
i did it on my old sj410 simple as pie, just took a few hours. not sure about these fancy injection engines tho.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

See how bad the smoke is, and if you can live with it.
I don't know if the seals can be done with the head on, I've done various cars with the head on, but not 16 valvers.
Other than that, check for rust in the boot cavity and where the seatbelts secure beneath the back seats, and if you like it, see how close to £1700 you can get it for.
He is a trader, likely paid around £1500 for it, if not less as a smoker.
Parkers reckon the trade value is £1800, without any faults, he is probably after £2000.
Forgot to say:
The tax is a lot more than you think for a 2001 onwards it is £200 a year

Are you looking for a soft top or Hard top ?
Any preference on colour ?
Any modifications for offroading or completely standard .. ie are you looking for a mint one to make pretty or one to get dirty?

I'm looking for a pretty good nick one as its my first 4x4, low mileage upto 70k. I will do a bit of green laneing but I do want it to be very clean, as I wanna be proud of it.
