Hmm. Leviathan has a ring 8 amp that is plugged in occasionally as needed but it's a bit of a brick through a plate window affair, doesn't do anything to combat sulfation etc and given how the battery behaves I think that may have a bearing on the electric leaking issues. Also having only one in temeraire would improve my confidence in leaving her slightly longer between outings at this time of year. I'll look at what ctek offer.

Reading the blurb on the ctek and it doesn't do anything that the noco doesn't but it's way more expensive. I'll have a look at the other suggestion.

Optimate were always the ‘go to’ trickle chargers for many years (especially for motorbikes), so you won’t go wrong, although they aren’t cheap and probably nearly as much as a CTEK.

Optimate for me too- I have the Optimate 5 which is 4A for the cars. It is disappointing in its lack of information as to how it is doing.

The Optimate 4 (0.8A) has an LED stack that tells you the charge current, so you can see that the battery is coming up full.

I also have an £11 Lidl charger (5A) with a voltmeter, seems to do the same job as the Optimate 5, but I wouldn't leave it plugged in permanently like the Optimate 4 on my 'bike....

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

I had Optimate years ago for a couple of bikes until it died.

Have been using the Lidl chargers for years and just leave them plugged in all winter or when the vehicles are not being used. You can see when it stops charging and reverts to monitoring via the voltage display.

All the electronic chargers tell you when it stops charging and goes into maintenance mode, including the Optimate 5, my complaint is not knowing where it is on the fancy charging curve that they give in the instructions.

The Optimate 4 has a 3,2,1 countdown scale as the current drops.

In The Olden Days you just had a transformer, a copper/oxide rectifier (the one made from a stack of square plates) and an ammeter. As the battery came up to charge the current dropped, so when it was down to half an amp or so, and the battery was bubbling nicely you turned it off.

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)
