Hi guys, I’ve noticed that the rubber cap is missing on the top of the evaporator canister, will this cause a problem and can I get a replacement anywhere , I think this is just a breather cap for ventilation so maybe able to make something fit but would rather buy one if possible

I never noticed a cap on mine (presumably because it was there), but there seems to be a lump in the picture I marked it with a red x.

Is this what you mean? Probably where they pour in the charcoal.

Just seal it, there should be 3 hose connections as in the diagram, the air pipe on mine was just a short loop of rubber hose, possibly to stop water running into the cannister if it went under water (as long as the engine is through the warm-up cycle, or purging the cannister will just suck water up the hose)

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there :)

My gen 3 canister looks like this:

So there is a cap.
But can be just a piece of rubber hose with a siphon for the function.

It would be on no2 in the picture but guessing it’s just a vent I only have two pipes going to the top of the canister on no1&no3

Yeah mine did have a cap on it but for some reason now missing, shall I get a bit of hose and a none return valve so it can’t suck water in as I do take it off roading

You can't fit a non return valve as air must be drawn in to purge the charcoal of petrol fumes, (and air has to get out when the petrol in the tank expands.)
It won't draw in air after the engine is fully warm, it should only purge shortly after starting.

You could fit one of those floating ball valves like on a submarine snorkel or the vent to a ship's oil tank but it is overkill really, it just needs to be splash proof, if you must run with the engine under water take the tube up to your snorkel.
