Help - yellow liquid from middle bracket of exhaust? was created by Simonp
Dear all.
I need some advice. I recently purchased a 2013 Suzuki Jimny in the UK. Drove the car home - took 4 hours - no issues.
After a week or so I noticed a small amount of quite bright yellow liquid under the middle of the car where the front and rear exhaust join - a drip every now and then off the middle bracket.
I have taken it to a garage and they suggested some sort of air con issue. But I took it to an air con specialist yesterday who did a UV test and said definitely not to do with air con as no leakage, no UV response and well away from air con bits and pieces.
I have checked the oil and dipstick - all normal and clear.
I ran the car for 50 mins this morning - no overheating. Constant temperature of 88 degrees. No drop in coolant levels.
Some water did come out of exhaust initially but clear liquid - nothing coloured at all.
Does anybody have any idea of what this might be?
Photos attached.
Many thanks indeed!

Dunno but it is interesting as you would have thought any liquid that far forward in the exhaust would boil away. It's not coming from higher up or inside the car thinking that it might be screen wash maybe, I know mine is a funny pink colour which would confuse if found where not expected?

Hi - no - definitely nothing wet anywhere else - just a drip every so often off the bottom of the bracket.......all dry around and above it.....

Need more clues! What's the consistency of the liquid? Watery? Oily? Any smell? There's a reasonable chance it is transmission oil from a leaky gearbox rear seal.

Hi - thanks so much for replying! It is liquid-form. No smell to it. It is a consistent slow drip from the bottom of the lower bracket connecting the front and rear exhaust. See new photo I’ve attached of drip

If it suddenly breaks, go back to the last thing that you did before it broke and start looking there

It must be supplied from somewhere- are there any yellow fluids? Prestone screenwash is yellow. I have an idea that Prestone universal anti-freeze is yellow too. Is the radiator overflow tank or the screenwash tank full of yellow fluid?
You could try undoing the exhaust bolts to open up the flange and see if it comes gushing out, but I'm with everyone else and it is dripping onto the exhaust from somewhere.
There is a condensate drain from the aircon somewhere near there, but you'd expect it to be colourless not bright yellow.
